The Arvin Area Tournament Association (AATA) is pleased to announce the “Water Ski Bakersfield Championship Series.”  Ability-based competition is tracked and announced during each Class C tournament held in our area during the 2008 season.  This site includes tournament information such as event location, running orders and special announcements.  For the calendar year 2008, the Series includes all 3 events: slalom, trick and jump!

While slalom groups in 2007 were based on ZBS (total buoy) averages, for 2008 the groups will be in a “never-made” format (based on best tournament performances) instead.  This change was made in part due to skier input.  We retained the ideas of skill-based (vs. age-based) skiing order and small competitive groups.  Participation in the series is automatic with your tournament registration, and there are no additional fees for this activity.   Each Group Leader will be provided with a bib/rash guard to wear until another skier within the Group accomplishes a better performance.  He will then relinquish the bib to that better performance.  Awards will be given at the final event (June-Ironwood for Jump; Sept-Ski West for Slalom & Trick) of the series to the individuals in each group with the highest total score as defined in the “Year End” section of these rules.

PLEASE STATE YOUR BEST TOURNAMENT SCORES (for the past 12 months) ON YOUR TOURNAMENT ENTRY FORM.  If you have never skied in a tournament, please state your best practice score off the dock.  If you do not state your best scores, we will assign your initial Group Placement.  Assignment in a Group is established at the beginning of each tournament and will remain throughout that tournament with two exceptions:

a.       For a new tournament skier with no ranking, the Tournament Director or Championship Series Coordinator may, at their own discretion, re-assign a Group during the tournament.

b.      Any skier who achieves a “Super” performance (Slalom only) is moved into the next higher Group.  A “Super” is defined as a score that would place the skier 2 groups higher than he or she was initially assigned, or -38 for a skier in L4.

c.       Any skier achieving his or her never-made score during a tournament will promote to the new Group at the next Arvin area tournament attended.

Trick Groups & Rules:

Year-end Series winner:

For ski-year 2008, each skier’s top AATA tournament scores (highest 5 rounds for slalom; 4 for trick; and 2 for jump) will be totaled for placement at year end. The individuals in each group with the best total score will be declared the series winners.  Where a skier participates in more than one Group during the season, final placement for year end championship scoring is the Group in which the most events are completed.  In the case of an equal number of events in each of two Groups, the higher ability Group will be assigned.  Tiebreakers will first consider the highest single score (round), then second highest.

Questions or disputes:

Questions or comments about the series can be addressed to any AATA officer.  The AATA Vice President (Tony Auvil) is designated the Championship Series Coordinator.  Address any disputes to him/her.  If the VP is unavailable, then the President (Bill Barrett), Treasurer (Gail Heinrich), or Secretary (Sue Strohbach) will adjudicate.  If no AATA Officers are present, then the Tournament Director will adjudicate, in this order of succession.  All decisions are final.
